Each week the Stacks Manager adds 4-6 albums we call P-cuts. Their
aim is to dig up those forgotten gems that have been lost in obscurity,
and to spotlight the innovative and influential works that have
inspired the artists we enjoy now. If you would like to suggest
an album/artist/or theme, please write to the Stacks Manager.
P-Cuts for the week of 14 August 2006:
Vashti bunyan Just Another Dimond Day (1970)
Simplistic British folk, a cult classic that would later provide the inspiration for today's new wave of folk artists.
Fear The Record (1982)
Punk released in 1982. Lets have a war is probably there most known song.
Telepopmusik Genetic World (2001)
Mid-tempo Electronic music from Paris in English.
A Certain Ratio Early (2002)
Overshadowed by the Manchester New Wave scene it, A Certain Ratio diversified indie rock with a mix of funk, mixed percussion, and unusual instrumentation.
My Bloody Valentine Loveless (1991)
Nearly bankrupting their record label and spending two years in the recording process, Kevin Shields and My Bloody Valentine constructed a breathtakingly eerie aesthetic placing themselves apart from the rest of their shoegazing contemporaries.
