Each week our music director sifts through numerous albums that have been sent by labels and individual artists. In any given week, the "MD" might listen to as many as 200 albums. Of this, only around 20 albums are added per week. How does the MD complete the daunting task of deciding what is and isn't KCPR material? She applies some music philosophy and some old fashioned Ouija board fun.

Our goal at KCPR is to provide our listeners with great music that typically would not be found on other radio stations. We offer a diverse mix of artists that gives our listeners a chance to hear any type of music. We add certain albums to the station because there is something about it that really enhances the already eclectic variety of our programming.

First off, make sure you know to whom you send your music, the Music Director. Sending albums to our entire executive staff will accomplish less than just sending one to the MD. You can either bring your album directly to the station or you can send it by mail. We can only accept CDs and vinyl. A one-sheet that includes contact, bio, and other relevant info is nice for us to have but not necessary. Huge press kits just clutter our office. Feel free to follow up on submissions. We try to get to things as fast as we can so don't worry if we don't get back to you right away.

Along with the new music we add to the station, reviews of selected new albums, written by our DJs, are posted every week. Our music reviews reflect our philosophy: we review an a variety of diverse albums that we think stand out from the tons of new music that is released on a daily basis. We are not tastemakers and we do not have any intention of making or breaking new bands, nor giving ambiguous praise or criticism towards other bands purely for the sake of being provocative. We only wish to share with you the music that we feel passionate about. read here

Each week the Stacks Manager adds 4-6 albums we call P-cuts. Their aim is to dig up those forgotten gems that have been lost in obscurity, and to spotlight the innovative and influential works that have inspired the artists we enjoy now. If you would like to suggest an album/artist/or theme, please write to the Stacks Manager. You can also check out this week's p-cuts here.
